Following the visit by NPower, the Parish Council called an extraordinary Meeting of the Parish and a good number of people attended, but some were prevented from speaking by the Chairman who decided that the public were like children, they should be seen and only occasionally heard!  

The bright light in the meeting was David Buckle, past Chairman of Oxfordshire County Council, and past Chairman of Radley Parish Council.  Even with his advanced years, he politely addressed the meeting, summed up the situation precisely and earned a round of applause from the audience.

The Vale of White Horse District Council decided not to hold a public meeting and the Officers of the Council have made their objection to Oxfordshire County Council in the strongest possible terms.

The Vale of White Horse District Council, through one of its representatives, has told Save Radley Lakes that "The council fully endorses the letter sent by Vale officers objecting to the application submitted to Oxfordshire CC by RWE npower for the construction of new ash lagoons in the existing void spaces, commonly known as Radley lakes. Since the extraction of the gravel 50 years ago, this area has developed into an attractive area of natural biodiversity which is a popular amenity for local residents and a haven for wildlife.

The council notes that the ecological report carried out for RWE npower notes that ‘The site is probably of County importance to nature conservation'. Any development of this site which destroys this natural environment or affected the biodiversity of the site would also contravene the government's Planning Policy Statement No 9, issued in August 2005. This council condemns the threatened destruction of the many wildlife habitats which have developed at Radley Lakes and the loss of public amenity space and urges RWE npower to rethink the dumping of fly-ash in this area.'
