In
January 2007, one of our members made their own personal petition
to the EU. After an initial acknowledgement, some weeks later
a letter of confirmation was received to say that the Petitions
Committee had looked at the submission made and were happy to advise
that it was deemed to be a valid petition, and they would make recommendation
to the EU Parliament to investigate further.
This
is just one step on the road to Justice in the European Courts.
There are others waiting to be taken.
The
petition gave the background to the Radley Lakes Planning Application
and made an appeal for three things:
- To
make the British Government endorse and enforce the Environmental
and Wildlife Protection Acts which have been passed by the EU
- To
make RWE NPower cease from their destruction of the Radley Lakes
with their plans.
- To
revisit the legislation classifying Fuel Ash and to allow the
ash to be classified as a by-product when it is being transported
off site for recycling, instead of Waste which means it has to
have all sorts of Licence Applications and Fees and Approvals.
Let's
hope we have more success in Europe than we have with Tony Blair's
petition process! |
