Fifty people turned out on Saturday 15th September
2007 to take part in a Cycle Ride to Say
No to RWE NPower's attempt to destroy to Radley Lakes on Saturday 15 September.

|
There
were two start points for the ride: Oxford
where Cyclists in Oxford were invited to congregate in
Broad Street , at 12.00 midday and they proceeded to Radley Railway
Station, where they met a second group from South Oxford, at 1.00.p.m.
|
At
Radley, Cyclists from the Abingdon area and South
Oxfordshire and the Witney area, gathered at the Railway Station
in glorious sunshine to await the arrival from the Oxford Group.
After
a introductions and safety checks, with an instruction to be silent
passing the horses in Thrupp Lane, the cyclists set off to go to
Abingdon passing through Radley Lakes with bells, whistles and banners.
Each member of the party was carrying a "SWITCH FROM NPOWER"
notice |

The
ride took place at a leisurely pace with a stop by Thrupp Lake to
watch a Peregrine Falcon swooping over Thrupp Lake. The baby
coots were possibly his target as they were recently hatched.
Both birds are protected species, but nPower won't care about the
wildlife that is destroyed. They are only interested in a convenient
cheap option to get rid of their ash. The cyclists were determined
to make their anger known about Npower's damage
to the lakes, which will also ruin the beautiful views of the lake
environment on the Sustrans cycle route that runs between two of
the lakes. The Sustrans route is to be disrupted and diverted in
coming weeks as RWE npower prepares to destroy Thrupp Lake .
