| [Home] | ERIC'S "LITTLE OASIS" WITH ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO The Oxford Times |
|
The people of Radley were underwhelmed by the article in the Oxford Times Business Magazine (Friday 19th August) There was Eric Hobson looking singularly corporate in his BBOWT Fleece, grinning fetchingly at the camera for a photo-opportunity with the added artistic licence of a thistle to set the scene. But then we suppose that's all there is at Sutton Courtenay Nature Reserve. The Headline was the best - "The business of caring for local environments" and Jenny Lunnon of the Oxford Times subheading said she "discovers the importance of corporate involvement to the running of the Berkshire Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust". For further information the reader is directed to Sally Lane at BBOWT on 01865 775 476. Perhaps our readers would like to ask the Local Authorities the question "What objections were made to the proposals 3 years ago to fill Lakes H/I?" because there seems to be a lack of any mitigation such as a conservation plan to turn these infilled lakes into another "little Oasis". And there's Eric in his peaceful little oasis, a licensed Newt handler - Enjoying a bit of tranquility from his oh-so-busy-day at Mordor (otherwise known as Didcot Power Station)- but not caring an iota what he is promising the people of Radley and all the residents off Audlett Drive. There will be no tranquility in Lakes £ (deliberate mistake) and F which we locals know as Thrupp Lake and the Bullfield Lake. Diggers, Dumpers, Bulldozers, Chain Saws, Dirt, Mud, Destruction, and Death to the wildlife that has colonised that area over the last fifty years. These two lakes are not recently-dug gravel pits that deserve filling, but mature lakes which have become an essential part of the landscape. And here's our response - an ode to Eric's Oasis and - a song - sung to the tune of the National Anthem - which has been sent to us by email |
